EZEMVELO CEO COMMENDS HIP FIELD STAFF FOR SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN RHINO POACHING
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife CEO, Mr Sihle Mkhize, has expressed his profound appreciation to all Ezemvelo's rhino reserves in the organisation's ongoing efforts to combat rhino poaching.
The CEO specifically acknowledged the dedication and commitment of the Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park (HiP) field staff, whose tireless work has contributed to a significant reduction in poaching incidents within the park.
"Our field rangers put their lives on the line every day to protect our rhino populations. Their bravery, dedication, and professionalism are truly commendable. The reduction in poaching incidents is a direct result of their hard work and the collaborative efforts across all our reserves," said Mr Mkhize.
Anti-Poaching Efforts
Hluhluwe-iMfolozi Park, established in 1895, is one of Africa's oldest game reserves and is renowned as the genetic home of the white rhino. The park's anti-poaching units work around the clock, utilizing a combination of:
- Ground patrols and surveillance
- K9 units for tracking
- Air support and monitoring
- Community intelligence networks
- Collaboration with law enforcement agencies
Operation Rhino Legacy
The park has a proud history of rhino conservation, having pioneered Operation Rhino in the 1960s. This groundbreaking initiative successfully saved the white rhino from the brink of extinction and has since translocated thousands of rhinos to reserves across Africa and the world.
Ezemvelo remains committed to its mandate of conserving KwaZulu-Natal's rich biodiversity for current and future generations.
